A shared passion

GrainCorp’s climate targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative

GrainCorp has reached a key milestone in its decarbonisation journey, with its climate targets officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – the global benchmark for corporate climate action.

The SBTi – a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) – helps companies and financial institutions set ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science.

Achieving this validation confirms GrainCorp’s commitment to delivering low-carbon products and solutions for customers across food, feed and renewable fuels, while also meeting growing consumer demand for sustainable supply chains and evolving regulatory expectations.

GrainCorp Managing Director and CEO, Robert Spurway, said:

“GrainCorp plays a central role in global food and energy systems with sustainability at the heart of what we do.

“Having our targets validated by the SBTi is an exciting milestone in our mission to drive science-based climate action, and reinforces our role as a trusted partner to growers and customers in building resilient, low-carbon supply chains.”

GrainCorp’s targets include a commitment to reaching net-zero GHG emissions across its value chain by 2050, with key milestones along the way:

Near-term targets (FY22 baseline):

42% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030

35% reduction in absolute Scope 3 Non-Forest Land and Agriculture[1] (FLAG) emissions by 2034

42.4% reduction in absolute FLAG emissions by 2034

Long-term targets:

90% absolute reduction in Scope 1, 2 and 3 (Non-FLAG) emissions by 2050

72% reduction in FLAG emissions by 2050

To deliver on these goals, GrainCorp will focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy procurement, electrification and low-carbon fuels, while working closely with growers and customers to reduce emissions across the value chain.

“Our science-based targets give us a clear pathway to driving real, measurable change across our business and the value chain,” Mr Spurway concludes.

GrainCorp will release its 2025 Sustainability Report in November in which further detail will be shared on sustainability goals and progress.
